COUNSELLING
Counselling is a confidential ‘talking therapy' within which a counsellor and client can explore and help alleviate the client's problems.
Before entering into an agreement for counselling the client and counsellor will meet, once or twice, to identify the issues that the client wants to focus on and decide whether there is a good therapeutic match. Thereafter an agreement will be made to meet for a number of weekly sessions, each lasting 50 minutes. The number of sessions can be reviewed and changed at any point.
Some people prefer to work on a long-term basis, some more shorter-term.
Counselling can help with depression, anxiety, bereavement, sexuality, childhood experiences, sexual abuse, domestic violence, adolescence, substance use and many other issues by exploring the origins of problems and identifying the potential for change.
Counselling provides a non-judgemental environment where sensitive issues can be discussed and explored with the goal of improving unsatisfactory aspects of the client's life. Counselling can be an emotionally painful process but the client's pace is always respected and adhered to.
