REFLEXOLOGY
WHAT IS REFLEXOLOGY ?
Reflexology is an ancient healing therapy dating back as far as 3000BC. Its origins are not well documented but it is known that many ancient cultures used foot therapy to treat the body. The term reflexology was coined in 19th century America and was developed out of research carried out by European neurologists.
It aims to rebalance the body through the practitioner using his/her hands to systematically apply pressure to specific points, or reflexes, on the feet. The feet are a microcosm of the body with the whole body being mapped on them.
HOW DOES IT WORK ?
Reflexology works on similar principles to Chinese medicine in that good health is established by the smooth flow of energy around the body. During a treatment a practitioner can establish which parts of the body are out of balance and therefore not working efficiently and by stimulating the reflexes on the feet can help the body to restore its own healthy balance. It is a gentle and effective treatment that is very relaxing to receive.
WHO HAS REFLEXOLOGY ?
Reflexology is suitable for all ages and for most conditions. Many people come for help with specific conditions; others come for general maintenance and well being. We are experienced in treating a variety of conditions such as
· Stress and anxiety
· Migraines and headaches
· Respiratory conditions such as asthma
· Insomnia
· Digestive problems such as IBS
· Hormonal imbalances such as menstrual problems
· Pregnancy and post natal care
How often will I need treatment?
Because each of us is unique and respond individually to treatment, it is impossible to give a precise answer. However most people will experience some change after one or two treatments, which are typically on a weekly basis to begin with. A course of 6 treatments is often recommended for maximum benefit, followed by less frequent treatments for ongoing maintenance if desired.
IS IT SAFE ?
All members of The Association of Reflexologists must abide by its Ethical Guidelines and Code of Conduct, which advise when and how treatment should be given. Your practitioner will take a case history so that where necessary adjustments in treatment can be made. It is safe to use reflexology alongside conventional medicine.
