SHIATSU

WHAT IS SHIATSU?
Shiatsu (which literally means finger pressure)  is a traditional
hands-on Japanese healing massage and body work therapy  that  releases
tension and stress from the body.   It is particularly effective for
back, neck and shoulder aches and pain, sports injuries and the effects of
stress on the body and mind. Other problems commonly treated using
shiatsu include digestive complaints, headaches, asthma, low energy
levels and general feelings of unease.

Whilst easing away and releasing tension and stress stored in the body,  a
Shiatsu treatment will work to re-balance and restore the flow of energy
in the body bringing about a greater sense of ease and comfort. Relaxing
both the body and mind.

HOW DOES IT WORK ?
The philosophy underlying shiatsu is that vital energy (known as ki in
Japanese) flows throughout the body in a series of interconnected channels
or pathways called meridians. For many different reasons the energy in
these channels can stop flowing freely or become blocked and this can
then be experienced as a symptom, discomfort, illness or disease.

Shiatsu treatments traditionally take place fully clothed lying on a futon
on the floor. It is preferable to wear loose comfortable clothing for easy
movement. A session begins with a brief consultation about your reason(s) for
coming, general health and lifestyle and it lasts about one hour. Shiatsu
is a holistic treatment that recognizes that many factors can affect
health and well-being including stress factors, lifestyle and diet.
Shiatsu uses a range of techniques including both gentle and strong
pressure applied to the body, some applied muscle stretching and
techniques to free joint stiffness.
Shiatsu is a deeply relaxing experience and regular shiatsu sessions help
to prevent the build up of stress in our daily lives.
